I have been asked on many occasions, "Why did you consider doing a thru hike of the AT?" This is a question that I asked myself on many occasions as I walked the trail. The answer can be partly found in the attached photos from this "year". Last summer my sister Ann introduced me to the beauty of the Presidential Range. Brothers, sisters, grandchildren, cousins, and friends embarked on a 3 day hike up to Mizput Hut, Lake of Clouds, and the return hike via Tuckerman Ravine to Pinkham Notch. 0n July 8th of this year I retraced the same hike from Mizput Hut to Lake of the Clouds Hut at the base of Mt. Washington. When I hiked up the 8/10 of a mile from Mizput Hut to above the tree line my question of why was answered. Although I had been in the same place a year earlier, it was as if I was seeing the beauty of the Presidential range for the first time. I realized this was a big part of why I walked the Trail. My hiking partner Ragnar said in his summery that it is about the people and not the trail. This is the one occasion for me when it was about the Trail more than the people. Hopefully the following pictures are able to capture the beauty of this section of trail through the Presidential Range. If you are considering a hike this is one that I would make #1 on my list. No telling... it may lead to even greater adventures! (July 9 2017 mile 1844.4 to 1855.4
