Headed north from Springer Mountain, GA on 4/4/18

Back on the Trail again!

I flew to Atlanta on Monday, 4/2, where Charlie picked me up. Yesterday we prepared for our hike.
This morning we headed to Springer Mountain, the southern most point on the Appalachian Trail.
We hiked 8.1 miles to the Hawk Mountain Shelter. It is rather cool and cloudy but good hiking weather. Tonight there is a freeze warning for this area and the temperature is supposed to dip to 30
degrees. It is supposed to be windy, too. I hope we will stay warm. We will hike together through Saturday; then I am on my own! After months of physical therapy, my back is feeling good so I hope I am ready for the trek north to Virginia. Hope to meet up with some hiking buddies at some point.

Stay tuned!
